Analytics Portfolio
Bryce Markman
Part-Time Student
BIA Major at DU
I'm a senior at the University of Denver studying Business Analytics, and this site is a collection of the projects I've worked on and the skills I've built along the way. I enjoy using data to solve problems and turn ideas into insights.
Selected Work
DraftKings MLB Lineup Optimizer
I built two optimization models to generate DraftKings MLB lineups. One used actual game results, while the other focused on a pre-game strategy using things like home field advantage, opponent ERA, and team stacking. The second model ended up beating a basic baseline by 11 points.
McDonald's Review Text Analytics
Analyzed over 33,000 McDonald's customer reviews using Python and NLP techniques to uncover patterns in customer sentiment and feedback. Applied methods like keyword analysis, sentiment scoring, topic modeling, and built a classification model to predict review ratings, revealing that lower-rated reviews tend to be longer and more detailed.
Predicting Trade Value for LA Kings Players
I built a regression model in R to estimate trade value for LA Kings players based on draft pick compensation. I scraped player stats from Hockey-Reference, cleaned the data, and ranked all active players by their predicted value.
Thriller Park Data Warehouse
I created a full data mart for a Denver amusement park, starting with designing a star schema and building the ETL process to load the data. From there, I analyzed ticket sales across different stakeholder perspectives and built dashboards in both Power BI and Tableau.
Bookstore Sales Management System
I built a SQL Server database from scratch, including tables, a view, a discount function, and a stored procedure. Then I turned it into a full application using Windows Forms, with interactive features and built-in reports.
DoorDash Operations Database
I built a full database for a DoorDash-style platform, starting with designing the ERD and implementing it in SQLite. From there, I wrote SQL queries to answer key business questions and created Tableau dashboards to present the insights.
Employee Productivity Analysis
Analyzed employee productivity using Python by combining demographic and work data to explore what factors drive performance. Used statistical methods like correlation, ANOVA, and regression to evaluate the impact of department, hours worked, and education level, and uncovered insights on what does and doesn't influence productivity.
Sales & Financial Data Analysis
Used Excel to analyze over 10,000 used Audi vehicle listings to identify the key factors that drive pricing, building a regression model across variables like age, mileage, engine size, and transmission type. Also built a retirement savings simulation model that used Monte Carlo methods with randomized salary and portfolio growth rates to project 20 and 25-year financial outcomes.
San Francisco 49ers Roster Analysis
Used Excel to perform a full statistical analysis of the San Francisco 49ers roster, collecting data on 94 players across variables like height, weight, years played, and Pro Bowl selections. Applied hypothesis testing methods including one-sample t-tests, two-sample t-tests, ANOVA, goodness-of-fit, and independence tests to answer real roster management questions.

Background
I'm a senior at the University of Denver majoring in Business Analytics, with a strong interest in turning data into meaningful, real-world insights. Through my coursework and projects, I've built experience using Python, SQL, R, Tableau, and Excel across areas like predictive modeling, database design, and data visualization.
Outside of academics, I like staying active by playing basketball, pickleball, and soccer, and I'm always searching for new music or a good concert to go to. I studied abroad at Queen Mary University of London in Fall 2025, where I traveled to several countries throughout Europe and Africa.
I'm currently seeking a full-time Data Analyst role and am based in Denver, with openness to relocation. I'm especially interested in opportunities in healthcare, finance, technology, or hospitality, but I'm excited to apply my skills in any industry where I can make an impact.
